May 3 - Dr. Rob Franciosi, “Teaching Holocaust to a non-Jewish audience”
Dr. Franciosi is Professor of Language and Literature
in the Department of English at GVSU. His
current research interests center on American cultural
responses to the Holocaust. He is completing
a study of John Hersey’s epic novel of the Warsaw
Ghetto, tentatively titled Imagining the Ghetto:
Hersey’s The Wall and American Holocaust Memory.

May 9-11 Cantorial Weekend with Audrey Abrams

Mark your calendar for a special melodic weekend at
Ahavas Israel, sponsored by the Phillip Movitz Memorial
Music Fund. Audrey Abrams will be our guest cantor and lead us in prayer and learning beginning with a special Kabbalat Shabbat service and ending with a workshop after
services and lunch on Shabbat.

6:15 p.m. Pre-Shabbat Happy Hour
hors d’euvres and drinks followed by “A Musical Kabbalat Shabbat” at
7:00 p.m., featuring keyboard and guitar.
Saturday:
Cantor Abrams will lead part of the service and share a D’var Tefillah on the topic of “Jewish Healing and the Power of Music.” Following the service we’ll have a light lunch. Following lunch will be a workshop entitled, “Waking Up to God.”

There is no charge for lunch or the Pre-Shabbat Happy Hour. However, if you plan to attend please call or e-mail the office by Tuesday, May 6 so we can prepare enough food. 949-2840 or office@AhavasIsraelGR.org.
